Saturated fat and coconut oil: the research and Kevin's videos
How much saturated fat can an APOE4 carrier eat, and is coconut oil different?

Eating less saturated fat lowers LDL cholesterol and heart events, and APOE4 carriers probably see a bigger ApoB drop when they swap it out. Coconut oil raises LDL more than olive or other vegetable oils. Links to memory in carriers are early: one study tied more saturated fat to faster decline, while a 2026 study tied more meat to better cognition.
What the research says
Grade AAPOE4-specific evidence: limited
Cutting saturated fat lowers LDL and heart events, coconut oil raises LDL against other oils, and in carriers the cholesterol response is probably larger; brain effects are uncertain.

Cutting saturated fat lowers ApoB more in carriers.
“ApoE4 carriers show significantly greater decreases in total cholesterols and Apo B among carriers of E4 when saturated fat was replaced.”
Dr. Kevin Tran, Founder of The Phoenix Community, Doctor of Pharmacy, APOE4/4 carrier

Carriers' cholesterol responds more to diet.
“blood cholesterol in APOE4 carriers appear more responsive to changes in dietary cholesterol and fat consumption than in non-carriers”
Dr. Kevin Tran, Founder of The Phoenix Community, Doctor of Pharmacy, APOE4/4 carrier

Cutting saturated fat was Kevin's first ApoB win.

For sensitive carriers, data still lean toward less saturated fat.

Saturated fat raises LDL more in carriers.
“[APOE4] carriers have heightened sensitivity to saturated fat”
Dr. Kevin Tran, Founder of The Phoenix Community, Doctor of Pharmacy, APOE4/4 carrier

Saturated fat is linked to faster decline in carriers.
“among participants with the APOE4 risk [allele] higher intakes of total and saturated fat were associated with a faster decline in global cognition.”
Dr. Kevin Tran, Founder of The Phoenix Community, Doctor of Pharmacy, APOE4/4 carrier

Saturated fat is particularly harmful for APOE4 carriers.

With a caution4 passages

Saturated fat raises ApoB more in many APOE4 carriers.
“people with apoE4s tend to be hyper responders to saturated fat”
Dr. Grant Fraser, Board-certified anti-aging and family medicine physician, APOE4 carrier

Saturated fat from beef and dairy is probably more harmful than from olive oil.
“If you're getting it from you know, beef for example, if you're getting it from dairy, probably more harmful.”
Dr. Grant Fraser, Board-certified anti-aging and family medicine physician, APOE4 carrier
Correction: trials show coconut oil raises LDL cholesterol compared with olive and other non-tropical plant oils.

Pick lean cuts and track lipids.
“always choose the leanest cut you can, to track your lipid and manage accordingly”

Dr. Fraser would have carriers, especially 4/4, keep saturated fat very low.
