NCT01052350 · ACTIVE NOT RECRUITING

PET Imaging in Parkinson Disease Dementia

This study uses a brain scan called PIB PET, which can show amyloid buildup, to work out what kind of dementia develops in people with Parkinson's disease. The goal is to spot who is at risk and what is driving it. No drug is being tested. Phase is not specified, and details are limited so far.

You may qualify if

  • PD patients must exhibit three of the following cardinal signs: rest tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, or postural instability; or two of these features with one of the first three displaying asymmetry.

You're excluded if

  • history of head trauma, major neurological or psychiatric diseases other than Parkinson disease and dementia, e.g. stroke, multiple sclerosis, depression or schizophrenia
  • severe systemic diseases
  • inability to lie still for 90 minutes
  • metallic implants, pacemakers, or any other contraindication to MRI
  • refusal to consent to brain donation
